Korean language program at Hope International University

From October 30, Hope International University will open a new program to train Korean language teachers. This is the first Korean language program with the goal of producing Korean teachers for the American school system. The program is sponsored by the Foundation for Korean Language and Culture and Keimyung University in Daegu.

The curriculum will cover Korean linguistics, speaking, writing, reading and Korean culture. Students who complete the course will receive a certificate and be qualified as language teachers

There are only 40 American high schools that teach Korean language as a subject. This is very low compared schools that teach other Asian languages such as Japanese and Chinese. Hope International University announced that in the future they will build a Korean language research center as well.

In addition, the foundation is planning to start Korean language programs in other universities, such as California State University and the University of San Francisco.
