Hyun Bin, Song Hye-kyo Announce Split

Star couple Hyun Bin and Song Hye-kyo have split up, their agencies announced Tuesday, one day after Hyun joined the Marine Corps for his mandatory military service. AM Entertainment and Eden 9 in a joint press release said the two agreed to split up amicably early this year.

Hyun and Song started dating after starring in KBS TV drama "The World That They Live In" in 2008, and made their relationship public in September 2009.

"Both have been very busy shooting films and dramas both in and out of Korea, which inevitably caused them to grow apart. Excessive media scrutiny of their relationship put extra strain on them, and rumors of their split were a source of great stress," the agencies said. "They did not have enough time to overcome these obstacles and the distance between them grew."

Song simultaneously filmed the famous Hong Kong director Wong Kar-wai's "The Grand Master" and Lee Jung-hyang's new movie, whose title has not decided yet. She also recently published a glamorous photobook. Hyun Bin's popularity skyrocketed after the success of SBS drama "Secret Garden" which ended early this year, and films "Late Autumn" and "Come Rain, Come Shine" were released back to back.
Rumors of their separation have been circulating since the end of last year. The agencies said the two split up early this year but wanted to keep it secret for the time being "because neither of them wanted the public attention to be directed on their split instead of their professional work. Hyun also did not want a personal issue to interfere with his last days with his fans before starting his military service."

He will be discharged on Dec. 6, 2012.
